Brooklands Radio to commemorate 80th anniversary of VE Day

Brooklands Radio is to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day with a week of special programming beginning Monday 5th May.
These programmes on the Surrey station will bring together listeners’ memories, themed shows and exclusive interviews to honour this moment in British history.
In an exclusive interview, broadcaster Michael Aspel shares his own childhood memories of evacuation, with a personal look into life on the Home Front.
Meanwhile, Dame Kelly Holmes adds her reflections on service and remembrance, drawing on her own military background.
Throughout the week, listeners will be encouraged to share their family memories of WWII. These stories will be featured across the station’s schedule, to create a community tribute to those who lived through the era.
Programming will also include wartime music, archive audio, a look at the headlines from 8th May 1945, and special contributions from Brooklands Radio presenters across the week.
Alan Timbrell, Chairman of Brooklands Radio says: “VE80 is really important for the locality and the nation. It allows radio stations to uniquely gather and record memories of all those involved.”
