Tributes paid to former editor of BBC Radio Cymru Aled Glynne Davies
BBC Radio Cymru has paid tribute to a former editor, Aled Glynne Davies, describing him as having “a passion for people and their stories” and a “kind and endearing nature”.
Aled went missing on New Year’s Eve and Police believe a body found in Cardiff Bay is that of the 65-year-old.
In a post on social media, his family said his body was found in a river on Wednesday.
His son, Gruffudd Glyn, wrote: “Thank you so much for all your efforts. We are heartbroken to announce that Dad was discovered in the river this morning.
“Now it’s time for us all to relax. Let us all celebrate Dad’s life x.”
BBC presenter Huw Edwards, who used to work with Aled, said Aled was a journalist and broadcaster of rare ability. Paying tribute on Twitter, he added: “He was also a kind and generous man. Deepest sympathy to Afryl and the family.”
BBC Wales Director Rhuanedd Richards said: “Aled was an innovative, energetic and passionate editor during his time leading BBC Radio Cymru between 1995 and 2006.
“His passing is a great loss to the broadcasting world as well as to the Welsh language.”
