Bro Radio supercharges its support for Welsh language music

Bro Radio is doing more with Welsh Language Music with a new commitment through its sister service, Bro Radio Xtra.
Following Welsh Language Music Day in February, the Vale of Glamorgan-based station has seen a surge in Welsh music submissions—and now, it’s doubling down on its mission to amplify the voices of Welsh artists.
Launched in 2023, Bro Radio Xtra has become a go-to platform for up-and-coming bands and artists across South Wales.
Now, in a move to celebrate and promote Welsh Language Music, the station has unveiled an ambitious new pledge: playing at least two Welsh Language tracks per hour throughout the day, plus dedicated all-Welsh music hours at 10 AM and 7 PM daily.
The announcement comes just in time for St David’s Day weekend, adding even more significance to Bro Radio’s ongoing support for local and emerging talent.
The station’s enhanced playlist has been handpicked by passionate volunteers who produce Bro Radio’s Welsh Language programmes. These music champions have spent years curating the very best in Welsh talent, ensuring listeners get an exciting mix of established artists and fresh new sounds.
Longtime presenter Angharad Rhiannon, who has hosted Bro Radio’s Welsh Show for over a decade, will continue to bring audiences the best in Welsh music, arts, and culture every second Wednesday of the month. Meanwhile, Gareth Joy’s show Y Newydd will spotlight the hottest new Welsh Language releases on the first Thursday of each month.
“As a long-standing supporter of Welsh Language Music, I’m thrilled that Bro Radio is stepping up its game,” said Angharad Rhiannon. “This new commitment is a game-changer for showcasing the incredible diversity of music being made in Welsh. If you’re an artist, band, or producer—now is the time to send us your music!”
