Basingstoke Community Radio partners with local college for radio courses

Basingstoke Community Radio has provided students from Basingstoke College of Technology with a six week course of radio workshops and experience.
The “Basingstoke Beacon” project, funded by the UK Government and supported by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, offers participants hands-on experience in the world of radio broadcasting.
The first cohort embraced the opportunity to learn valuable skills in presenter techniques, voice production, scriptwriting, show planning, and studio production.
“We are incredibly proud of the BCOT SEN students who have completed this first course,” said David Chatten-Smith, Station Manager and Chairperson of Basingstoke Community Radio.
“Their dedication and enthusiasm have been truly inspiring. The ‘Basingstoke Beacon’ project is about creating opportunities for everyone, and seeing these students flourish has been incredibly rewarding.”
The students engaged in all aspects of radio production, from crafting compelling scripts to mastering the technical aspects of studio equipment. The course provided a supportive and inclusive environment, allowing each student to develop their unique talents and build confidence.
“This experience has been fantastic for our students,” said a representative from BCOT’s SEN department. “It has given them a chance to explore their creativity, develop their communication skills, and gain invaluable experience in a real-world setting. We are immensely grateful to Basingstoke Community Radio for this opportunity.”
The “Basingstoke Beacon” project continues to offer radio training workshops for young people aged 13 and above, providing a platform for aspiring presenters to “Light Up the Airwaves.”
