York small-scale DAB bidder looks for service providors
YO1 Radio is inviting expressions of interest from anyone interested in providing a programme service on the forthcoming small-scale DAB licence for the City of York.
The community radio service currently covers both York and Selby on two FM transmitters – and provides a sister service on the existing North Yorkshire DAB multiplex.
The station is partnering with Radiate Digital Radio to apply for the licence recently advertised by Ofcom.
Managing Director of YO1 Radio, Wayne Chadwick, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with the team from Radiate in preparing an application for the new licence in York. YO1 Radio is already available on FM, DAB and online but, as technology advances and new opportunities arise, it makes sense for us to embrace new opportunities within the industry.
“As we prepare our application, we would be delighted to hear from anyone, either an existing station or a potential new operator, who might be interested in providing a programme service on the new multiplex which will cover York and the surrounding area.”
Nick Piggott, Managing Director, at Radiate added: “We are very happy to be able to team up with YO1 Radio on this application. Their local knowledge and the massively enhanced profile they have achieved in recent months, together with our own in-depth technical knowledge and expertise in providing digital radio platforms makes for a very strong partnership – and we are very excited about the application.”
Anyone interested in providing a service as part of the application should, in the first instance, contact YO1 Radio’s Operations Director, Dave Parker, at dave.parker@yo1radio.co.uk
