Former GMG Radio exec buys Scottish internet radio station
Jay Crawford, former programme director at Real, Smooth and Rock Radio has purchased online radio station Edge Radio Scotland.
Jay, who started his radio career 47 years ago today, announced the news to RadioToday with information on taking the station to DAB.
He said: “I made the directors an offer to buy the station which has been accepted and we launch on DAB in 2022.
“It’s an exciting time and I’m really looking forward to developing Edge Radio with the young and talented team on air and in production at the station.
“My times as a presenter and PD at Radio Forth, Radio Clyde and Real Radio, Smooth and Rock were wonderful and the highlight of my career was becoming a Fellow of the Radio Academy in 2008. Being able to pass on my experience and knowledge to the young team at Edge is extremely fulfilling.
“Edge Radio is a hit/dance music station which is perhaps not what people would have expected me to be involved with but that’s what I like about it. It’s a chance to give back something to an industry that I love, without risking any temptation to put myself back on air!”
Former director Ally Douglas has left the company whilst Mark Martin and Matt Shields remain as directors of the new Edge Media Group.
Edge Radio is currently looking for premises and appointing a PR agency.
