United DJs Radio scheduled for closure again

Digital service United DJs, fronted by former Radio Luxembourg presenter Tony Prince, has announced it will be closing this weekend.

The station posted a similar message in December but made a u-turn at the last minute and carried on broadcasting.

A message on social media said: “We’ve had the time of our lives for three wonderful years but, sadly, we’ve been unable to attract enough listeners to make it commercially viable. We tried our best and boxed way above our weight. Thanks for your support.”

United DJs has been available on DAB in Portsmouth and Norwich and previously featured former Radio 1 and Capital DJs including Mike Read and Neil Fox.

It launched in April 2018 and a music and memorabilia auction was held by Tony Prince in 2020 to help it continue broadcasting.

Tony told RadioToday: “I am deeply saddened to close United DJs Radio down, it was never a business-inspired idea, it was a passion which lots of people shared with me.

“Our biggest regret is to leave the UNITED TOP 30 behind which, whilst attracting a huge listener response was also an enormous alternative to the download charts for musicians and labels.

“For 3 years and 2 months, we provided a service to the over 40s who loved personality radio. I firmly believed streaming would quickly come of age but not, alas, quickly enough.”
